Going North: Calgary to Alaska (IV) Having read a lot about the gold rush we thought we needed to go to the place where it all started. Skagway and the start of the Chilcoot trail to the Klondike. We managed to have several small driving days with beautiful lakeside campsites on the way.

Skagway, while not pretty, has an impressive history. It grew from a few people to a town of 20 000 within a year when the gold rush on the Klondike started in 1897. Incredible how those people carried a ton of material over the pass to then sail down the river to Dawson!! It was Anna’s birthday in Skagway and so we organised a horse carriage ride through town and watched the old steam train taking off for the pass. 퇐폒헔ퟖ
