Lili’s account: We went to Cusco and stayed in a nice hotel but it was very hard to up and down because they had very steep steps going down into town. But it was nice to have a great view onto the town center. At the hotel they had a little puppy which we played a lot with. He was called Junior. When we had Easter we had it at the hotel and I got lots of things but no chocolate. Oma did not want to bring chocolate via the hot Galapagos. I got a little bell and a dried little pumpkin with beautiful little carvings on it. In the town we met our Danish friends and went out for lunch with them. While we were in Cusco they was the Semana Santa (Easter week) and so they brought out a big black statue of Christ so no more earthquakes would come into town. After that we went into a restaurant and when the statue passed the people in the street were squeezed into the window because they were too many people in the street. @$ࠀ
had in the meantime while waiting taken a bath in the room that we had to vacate subsequently) for an hour we finally could relax and get some food. While we enjoyed Cusco a lot we unfortunately got the late end of the rainy season and so we had a lot of rain between 3 and 10°C (to the great chagrin of my mother who is a sunlover). Furthermore, the steep roads and stairs in Cusco at 3300 m did not make live for my mother with her heart problem easier and in the end we felt quite guilty having made her undergo a major heart and fitness test during her holiday in Peru and Ecuador. 啔坖奘孚嵜彞慠换敤杦楨歪浬潮煰獲畴睶x
enough for our camper. Nevertheless, she had managed to secure some rooms. Now we had the burning question where to leave the car. It had gotten dark and so we attempted to crawl into a private parking place that was roughly 10 cm wider than the camper but with an entry at an angle of a steep ski slope with lots of bumps. After manovering for 15 minutes and taking out the telephone wire that was in the way (and without scratching the car!!) we were in - but not sure how we would get out. We got to the hotel and after arguing about the rooms (the kids
Cléo’s account: We were in Cusco. Is was very very nice! We stayed in a hotel called Casa del Campo. We had Easter (egg hunt) in the hotel. Anna saw first a yellow egg. I found a bell too and a found a nice mais cob (dried) too that was blue a little bit of yellow. There was a puppy dog called Junior in the hotel too. ᒜΙScȐƐƐ
We had decided to stay in a hotel for 10 days while my mother was traveling with us in order to preserve the family peace. When we arrived in Cusco after three days of driving we tried to get to our hotel as indicated by them and in addition suggested by a policeman that we asked for directions. But we had not understood what colonial town means. The roads got steeper and steeper and more and more narrow. After a few attempts we got stuck in a small road that nevertheless seemed to be a major through road. After a short but intense row with Kate I refused to go on and she had to get out of the car and find a way to make the queue of cars behind us to either pass on the pavement or move back. After much hooting and with the help of some policemen we managed to move back 200 m around a few corners and stopped. Kate went off to find the hotel and came back after an hour pretty devastated. The hotel had canceled our reservation and was not to get to with our car anyway and had not as promised found a parking that was high
700 US$ made me decide against a retrofit. Nevetheless, they could made the necessary oil and filter changes and rebend the back bumper that I had twisted in a few occasions. In turned out that changing the petrol filter alleviated the stalling engine problem almost completely. I must have gotten some dirty diesel somewhere that clogged up the filter and perturbed the high altitude functioning. ɂ㔱
While we were in Cusco I benefitted from the low cost to get the camper serviced. In particular, I wanted to know whether they could do anything about the engine stalling at high altitude. I found out that all the Mercedes Sprinters here in Cusco were fitted with an additional part that provided the correct mixture and pressure of Diesel and air. However, given potential complications when going back down to sea level and the cost of
