Arrival in America Lili’s account: After the long flight from France (8 hours) we were very tired. We went to the Renaissance Hotel that was very nice. Our room was on the 11th floor. Daddy and I went to get the rental car. For breakfast we went into a diner in Smyrna. A diner is a typical restaurant as you see them in American films. Anna and Cléo did not like very much because it did not smell very good. There are lots of fat people in America. The next morning we drove down to the island of Chincoteague. There are lots of ponies. There is a book about the island that involves lots of ponies. One is called Misty. We have read that story in France. Our hotel is called the Marina Motel. For dinner we went into a Chinese restaurant. The food was very good. After dinner we went to the Chincoteague pony center to see a pony show. We saw Misty’s greatgranddaughter Blackmist and three black horses which were not really black because they were sunburned. There was a game where you had to be on a pony. 10 Dollars were put on the floor and you had to bend down from the pony and pick up the Dollars without falling down. If the horse eats the paper the horse has won. The following morning we went to the Asseteague national parc. Asseteague is an island next to Chincoteague where lots of wild ponies live. Every year lots of man come and do a round-up of the horses on the island to bring them to the Chincoteague. They have to swim across the channel. When they get to Chincoteague, they sell the foals the next day to get the money for the fire department. In the very early hours when we looked over the sea we suddenly saw Dolphins swimming just a few meters from the shore. On the island we played in the sea and in the sand. Williamsburg - Maryland Williamsburg is a village in Maryland where people work as a job to represent people in the old days. Some of them work as silversmith, shoemaker, saddlemaker, housekeeper. It is like a sort of live museum. We had lots of fun watching the people to do their work dressed up in the original cloths from the 18th century. We saw also the milliner and the printer and we (Mummy and Daddy) participated in old dances. We went to the asylum and we saw how the people who were considered mad were treated there. Then we went back to our hotel. 汳敥≰愠摮映汵祬搠敲獳摥繜⁉敷瑮漠桴敢湡敦汬愠汳敥传汮屹慾ഠ挊畯汰景栠畯獲⠠瑩眠a

Anna’s account: The shoemaker was very interesting, instead of using a needle he used a boar’s hair to saw the shoes. I tried out the stocks. It was funny to be tied up. Stefan’s account: In fact there was a huge heat wave in the US during our first week with temperaturs up to 40°C. After Williamsburg we went up to Baltimore to get our camping car. A number of additional preparations (like buying all the things that we forgot back home) had to be carried out too. This first week was a full emersion into the American food culture: we tried all sort of restaurants: diners, Pizza Hut, Mexican, Steak house, etc. A real challenge to avoid the soft drinks and the snacks. After this we were looking forward to our own kitchen in the camper to get back to our own anglo-german-french cuisine. ΙËჿ˿ǨǨÿ
